Hands on First Impression A7sII + Zeiss 24-70 F4

Yesterday i had the chance to shoot some pictures with the brandnew Sony A7sII + Zeiss 24-70 F4 on the christmas market in Linz, Austria and this is my first impression on shooting photos with the A7sII.

About the A7sII

Now first the Body is allmost identical with the A7II and the A7rII, same layout, but there is a new lock button on top for the mode dial which is nice to have.

The Buildquality is very good, maybe a tiny bit better than the A7II on my first impression, it feels very solid made in the hand.

The viewfinder and the lcd screen are very good too with high resolution, so nothing is missing here.

Of course the main reason why you buy an A7sII will be its amazing lowlight ability and internal 4k Video, but this camera is also a great choice for wedding photographers and event shooters, allthough it has only 12 MP resolution.

Its 5 Axis In Body Stabilisation is the best you can get right now on a Sony camera, i´ve compared it with the A7II and i would definetly say its an improvement with an FE lens you get incredible stabilisation.

To test it out i got the Zeiss 24-70 F4 which is a very good lens too, much better than it´s call, with the zoomrange of 24-70mm it makes a very nice street photography and walkaround lens. It´s only F4 but when you have the high iso power of the A7sII, this is no problem at all.

The focus speed of the A7sII is not the quickest, but i never had the feeling that it was too slow or unusable for photography, it has definetly improved over the A7s.

The Zeiss lens balances very nice on the A7sII and its also quite small for such a zoom range and lightweight.

So lets look at some results, all edited in lightroom and only a bit of denoise, camera was set to iso automatic since iso is a piece of cake for the A7sII:

My Conclusion:

I only had the A7sII for a short time, but i´m very impressed by it´s lowlight power. You get very clean images and don´t really have to worry about your ISO setting.

If you don´t need the extra megapixels like 24mp on the A7II or 42mp on the A7rII the A7sII a very good choice for photo and of course for 4k Video.

It´s price is not cheap, but you get a lowlightmonster that shoots great 4k internal with 5 Axis In Body Stabilisation in a small body, no other camera can give you this right now.
