FUJI XT2 Hands On

In this blogpost i want to show you my first impressions on the brand new FUJI XT2. Yesterday i have been to electronic store called Saturn in Linz, Austria. The friendly people there made it possible for me to test this camera in the store.

The XT2 is  a 24 megapixel APSC camera for photos and it can also shoot 4k video. Here are the full specs:

  • 24.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III Sensor
  • X-Processor Pro Engine
  • 0.77x 2.36m-Dot OLED Viewfinder
  • 3.0″ 1.04m-Dot 3-Way Tilting LCD Screen
  • Internal UHD 4K Video & F-Log Gamma
  • Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • 325-Point Intelligent Hybrid AF System
  • Up to 8 fps Shooting and ISO 51200
  • Weather-Sealed Body; Two UHS-II SD Slots
  • Film Simulation and Grain Effect Modes

The Buildquality of this Fuji camera is amazing, compared to sony cameras for example it feels much more like a professional camera in the hand. You can really feel the difference once you have the Fuji in your hands.

Fuji has done an excellent job on the body and also the 18-55 F 2.8-F4 kit lens that comes with is just rock solid. Absolutely no cheap materials are being used here. The Xt2 has 2 very nice and big dials on the top for shutterspeed and iso, so you don´t have to press buttons, on the back there is a joystick to directly controll your af point, which should be on any camera.

The OIS in the Fuji lenses i have tested works incredibly well, allthough the XT2 has no stabilisation in the Body, the OIS in the lens does a great job also using telephoto lenses like the Fujinon 100-400mm with teleconverter or the beautiful 56mm F 1.2 which gives you amazing bokeh.

Handheld shots in the store where absolutely no problem.

Fuji lenses are known to be one of the sharpest lenses around, and I can only agree to that, this is definetly one of the best kit lenses with optical stabilization if not the best you can get right now on any system.

The XT2 also has an amazing and very big OLED EVF viewfinder  which has a very fast refresh rate of only 0.005 sec with 60 or 100 fps in boost mode, its very bright and its a joy to look through this viewfinder.

On the back it also has a tiltscreen which you can flip up or down and also vertical for portrait shots.

One of the best features which wedding photogrophers will love is the dual card slot. Again Fuji makes no compromises and just gives you that, which is very expensive on other systems.

The Fuji XT2 also has no anti aliasing filter which will deliver much sharper images, so lets see some photos ive shot with the xt2 and lets see a quick iso test.

All these images are processed from the XT2 RAW Files in Lightroom, boosting the shadows as much as possible

As you can see sharpness, detail, shadow recovery and dynamic range is excellent and also bokeh is beautiful for an apsc camera,  also the iso performance up to ISO 6400 is very good.

This  panorama was shot using the booster grip for the xt2, ive shot 28 images in continues shooting mode before the buffer was getting slow. The xt 2 is also very fast, some say its even faster than some dslr´s, and once again I can absolutely agree to that and also focusing with fuji is much faster than on sony a7 cameras for example although I love my a7ii.

Can this replace your fullframe camera? I think yes it can, it has everything really what you would expect from a new modern camera in 2016.

The price quality ratio of this Fuji XT2 camera and also the fuji lenses is amazing and much better than on other systems, so if you are looking for a new camera I will definetly recommend the XT2.

If you are from Germany, Austria make shure to visit the friendly people at Saturn to check out the XT2 there.
