In this blogpost i want to show you my latest images done with the Fuji X-T2 + Fujinon 16mm 1.4 + 50-140mm 2.8 + Booster Grip in the snow and icecold temperatures down to -7 centigrade.
Normally i don´t shoot a lot at these cold temperatures, but since the weather is really, really cold this winter in Austria i took the chance to test out my Fuji gear.
So how did the gear work?
THE GOOD NEWS
The Fuji X-T2 worked great in this very cold condition, had no problems at all, the camera just kept on working even after 3 hours with the booster grip on.
The weathersealing and the buildquality really does what it should to protect the camera and also the buildquality and weather sealing in the Fujinon 16mm 1.4 and the 50-140mm 2.8 lenses is top quality. So really no complaints there.
THE NOT SO GOOD NEWS
While the Fujinon 50-140mm 2.8 worked just flawlessly on the X-T2 in the icecold temperature, my copy of the Fujinon 16mm 1.4 unfortunately had some connection errors. Suddenly i could not set the aperture anymore and it refused to autofocus, which should really not happen, since this lens should work in temperatures down to -10 centigrade. I found out that when i turned the camera off, screwed the lens off and then on again, everything worked like it should, but of course that should really not happen with any lens.
This never happend in normal, warm temperatures, but i will give the 16mm 1.4 to my Fuji retailer to send it in to the Fuji Service since i still have warranty and i was told that the Fuji service is pretty quick. I think this connection problem is only with my copy of the lens probably, since i have read that others didn´t have that at all with their 16mm 1.4
I will update this blogpost to let you know what happend to the lens once i have it back.
Update 16.02.2017: Finally got my Fujinon 16mm 1.4 back 2 days ago and so far everything is working perfectly with no connection errors. The Fuji repair service exchanged the circuit board, so i think there should be no connection problems anymore, regardless in which temperatures.
Update 23.01.17: here some more winter impressions from Schlögen and Aschach in Austria, all shot with the Fujinon 50-140 2.8. It´s such an amazing lens, totally love the results i get with it!
THE IMAGE QUALITY
Nevertheless both lenses give you incredible image quality and so i can still recommend both lenses!
These images where shot in RAW, used simple editing on them + selected velvia profile in post + color efex pro for the cream on top.
The look i gave these images is 100% my personal taste and of course you can make Fuji files look completely „natural“ if you want, but thats not what i had in mind.
